Iron Man 2
gets a Proper 'Toyetic' Launch in Hong Kong !
Posted at CNNGO.com
Since chances are slim that Robert Downey Jr, ScarJo or even Don
Cheadle would come to Hong Kong to promote Iron Man 2 (opening
today) resourceful companies in Hong Kong decided to make their own
splash by building their own Iron Men.
Hong Kong collectibles company Hot Toys sent out their 1:6 scale
Mark III Iron Man to Hong Kong and Japan's hottest toy designers and
had them re-interpret the Armored Avenger in their style -- and what
came out is this amazing Iron Man CollectARTble Expo that is now on
till May 7 at the Miramar Shopping Centre in Tsim Sha Tsui.
Chrissie Chau was there to reveal the 1:1 scale War Machine and to
make sure every otaku, fanboy, and Marvel Zombie knows that the film
is launching.

sequel.
"Iron Man 2" flies
onto iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches on Monday, May 3, complete with
numerous armor choices, all of Iron Man's trademark powers,
dangerous villains and plenty of intense 3D action. We tapped the
production team at Gameloft to learn more about the game, from the
iPad specifics to environments to the Iron Man suits and more!
Iron Man 2 director
Jon Favreau used to see himself as a master at surpassing low
expectations. “Nobody expected anything of the first Iron Man
movie,” he says. “In fact, they rolled their eyes at the thought of
launching a franchise with this obscure hero, thinking we were
pushing the comic book genre too far.”
Then Iron Man came out two summers ago and made $585 million.
Suddenly Favreau, the actor-turned-writer-turned-action-movie-mogul,
is feeling a new kind of challenge: He has to make the fanboys
happy.
Scarlett Johansson portrays Natalie, aka Black Widow, in Iron Man 2.
“The pressure I’m feeling this time is that the bar is much higher,”
Favreau says in a phone interview with Wired.com. “I feel indebted
to the fans that made the first one successful and I want to make
sure that the fans are satisfied. It’s not about the movie making
money, though it’s tracking well. For me, the greater point is how
Iron Man 2 is going to be received creatively, and will the fans see
Iron Man 2 as actually living up to the promise of the first one?”
The key asset for Iron Man 2, opening next Friday, is Robert Downey
Jr., who returns in the title role as rapier-witted weapons genius
Tony Stark. Picking up after his “I am Iron Man” declaration, Stark
maintains his cocky facade in the sequel while concealing a dark
secret from a mostly new crew of feisty friends and fearsome foes.
Joining Gwyneth Paltrow and Samuel L. Jackson are franchise
newcomers Sam Rockwell (Moon) and Don Cheadle, with Scarlett
Johansson in the role of Natalie/Black Widow.
Favreau — who, playing the role of Stark chauffeur Happy Hogan, gets
slammed to a boxing-ring floor by Johansson in the sequel — made his
most inspired Iron Man 2casting choice by picking Mickey Rourke to
play the heavy: ex-con Russian inventor Ivan Vanko, aka Whiplash.
Robert Downey Jr. doesn't need help looking good, but he has plenty of
back-up at the red carpet premiere of Iron Man 2. The titular metal dude
was joined at Hollywood's El Capitan by some of the film's cast, which
is jam-packed with some of our favorite people including Gwyneth Paltrow,
Scarlett Johansson, Mickey Rourke, Samuel L. Jackson, Don Cheadle,
director Jon Favreau and even our own colleague, G4's Olivia Munn (who
has a role in the film). We've been waiting to see this sequel pretty
much since we walked out of the first one, and so we cannot wait for May
7 to finally get here and we can see it too.

Review: Iron Man (Mark 1 Armor)
While clearly not
Black Sabbath’s homicidal monstrosity, those lyrics perfectly
describe Tony Stark as his footsteps thundered from the darkness, a
fatalistic sound heralding impending doom to the terrorists in their
isolated camp. Nervousness turned to fear as the Mark 1 emerged
from the cave. If the nightmarish mish-mash of cannibalized metal,
gears, and weaponry were not enough to send the Ten Rings’ foot
soldiers fleeing, then the explosive bursts of fire from Iron Man’s
primitive flamethrowers sure were.
That prominent and
deadly entrance into daylight served another purpose, one aimed at
the audience:
Proof that Iron
Man was going to be something very special and very successful.

Review: Iron Man (1st Comic Appearance)
While
certainly not as old and pervasive in pop culture as superhero stalwarts
Superman and Batman, Iron Man has been a major staple of the comic book
industry since his introduction in the March 1963 issue of Tales
of Suspense (Issue 39).
By
the time Iron Man made his live-action cinematic debut in May 2008,
the character had been around for 45 years and gone countless transformations—most
notably in the design of Stark’s fantastical armor. At one point
in the past decade, Iron Man even grappled with a version of his armored
suit that had become sentient!
But
his first suit—the Mark 1 version he built to escape his captors in
Vietnam—was truly an “iron man”, a hulking, seemingly stone-chiseled
concoction of metal, rivets, and reverse magnetism technology.
This very short-lived suit was the inspiration for the cinematic Mark
1 armor. It is also a fitting place to begin our series of Iron
Man product reviews, which will have a heavily emphasis on Hasbro’s
brand-new Iron Man 2 toy line.
Hasbro
wisely categorized their plethora of Iron Man 2 products into
three distinct assortments or series: Comic, Movie, and Concept.
Obviously, the “1st comic appearance” Iron Man figure reviewed
here is part of the “Comic Series”. Without further ado, HeroesArentBorn.com
is proud to present our very first product review.

Hasbro Marvel Q&A Session
We are officially part of Hasbro’s new Marvel license Q&A sessions!
Check our our first installment below!
HAB:
In recent years, you've done an excellent job keeping characters
in the Star Wars line accurately scaled to each other (e.g. Chewie
towers over Lando, and Leia is shorter than Luke). Why did you decide
not to do this in the Iron Man 2 line? Iron Monger, Mark I, and Mark
III are all basically the same height.
HASBRO: You are right. The Star Wars items are created in proximity to each
character's true size. However, within the Iron Man collection, many
of the actual characters when featured in their armor, are quite similar
in size. Thus we have created characters that appear quite similar in
size. We also have to keep into account our packaging dimensions when
producing product. We would like to have some figures tower over others,
but due to packaging restraints, this is challenging.
HAB:
If it proves to be a success with the Iron Man 2 line, would you
consider creating separate movie, animation,
and concept series in other line Hasbro makes that would all run
concurrently?
HASBRO: We are always looking to expand the Marvel Brand, especially our movie
figures. Anything is possible!
HAB: The Iron Man 2: 3-In-1 Repulsor, Iron Man 2 Helmet and Arc Light are
all great role play items for kids that I think collectors can also
enjoy and have fun with. While you do offer a combo pack with a basic
mask in the Iron Man Mask & Repulsor Gauntlet Set. Have you thought
about doing a Trio Combo pack that includes the 3 in 1, The Iron Man
2 Helmet and the Arc light for a discounted price as a TRU, Wal-Mart
of Target Exclusive? Possible even collector friendly package
with a window box?
HASBRO:
Great question! We are always looking for ways to deliver the fun Iron
Man experience to both kids and collectors. Look for more fun Iron Man
Role Play items this fall.

Iron Man 2 will delve deeper into the backstory of Tony Stark's dad,
Howard Stark, who was a key player in the early events that would
eventually come to shape the Marvel universe as we know it. And part
of Howard's legacy involves the Stark Expo, a World's Fair type
event that Tony attempts to revive in the new film.
Now, as part of the ramp-up to the release of Iron Man 2, Paramount
and Marvel have unveiled a viral site for the Expo at
starkexpo2010.com. The site, which
purports to be the real deal, features photos/images of the event,
Stark Industries concept art, an interactive map, a video of Howard
Stark (circa 1974) -- played by Mad Men's John Slattery! -- and
more. It all goes down at Flushing Meadows, New York, which is right
around the corner from Shea Stadium and also happens to have been
the locale for real-life World's Fairs of the past.

A new image of the Mark VI armor from "Iron Man 2" adorns the cover
of this month's issue of "Total Film" magazine. While it's not much
different from previous images we've seen of the armor (identified
by the triangle-shaped arc reactor in the chest), the image does
offer a nice close-up of the suit's upper-body design. The issue is
on sale now. The Mark VI armor was one of several on display in
the latest "Iron Man 2" trailer, which also featured the Mark V
briefcase armor and some nice shots of War Machine.

Earth!
With "Iron
Man 2" just a
few months away
from hitting
theaters, MTV
News contacted
War Machine
co-creator Bob
Layton to
discuss the
character's
upcoming debut
on the big
screen. The
conversation
covered a wide
range of
subjects that
we're rolling
out this week in
a four-part
series —
continuing with
today's tale of
his "Iron Man 2"
set visit and
the disagreement
he moderated
while he was
there.
Longtime “Iron
Man”
writer and
artist Bob
Layton is
recognized as
one of the most
signi
ficant creators
to chronicle
Tony Stark’s
adventures, so
it's probably no
surprise that he
was called upon
to help settle a
creative
disagreement
between
director Jon
Favreau and star
Robert Downey
Jr.
during his visit
to the “Iron
Man 2”
set last summer.
“When I
first got on the
set, there was a
dispute going on
between Jon
Favreau and
Robert Downey
Jr. about [Jim
Rhodes’]
character,”
Layton explained
to MTV News.
“That’s how I
was introduced
to them. It was
like, ‘here’s
the guy who
helped created
the character,
why don’t we ask
him?’"
Proof that Tony Stark
has a heart! Perhaps the most iconic prop from the smash-hit movieIron
Man,no expense was
spared in replicating the details exactly. From the machined metal
parts and copper wire to the high-intensity LEDs, you'll own the
definitive prop from this storied franchise and Marvel hero. Based
directly on the actual movie prop and with reference from Stan
Winston Studios, the Arc Unit measures about 4 1/2-inches in
diameter and is made from machined aluminum, stainless steel, and
custom-molded plastic. It's removable from the stand and includes a
Plexiglas display case and full-color certificate of authenticity.
Bring home Tony's "heart," as given to him by his thoughtful
assistant Pepper Potts! Requires 4x "AA" batteries (not included)
with a cool-burn time of approximately 8 to 10 hours.
Upon his escape in
theIron Manfilm,
Tony Stark retreats from public view to focus on the design of his
latest power suit. The Arc Reactor supplies energy to an
electromagnet that prevents embedded shrapnel from reaching his
heart.
It's going to be an onslaught of Iron Man toys this spring, with ol'
shellhead making a triumphant return to the big screen with an all-new
movie, a new villain,
and he's bringing along some other heroes as well!
The new toy line shifts to the popular 3¾" scale, and we'll see a
division in the line with various suits of armor. Much line Hasbro's
original
Iron Man and
X-Men Origins: Wolverine toy lines,
Iron Man 2 will be split up into different series: Comic Series,
Movie Series, and Concept Series.
