Captain America - The First Avenger Sixth Scale Figure Review!

By Chris “the V” Vuotto

Well, today here at we’re reviewing Captain America, The First Avenger, from our friends at Sideshow Collectables and Hot Toys. Now, if you have never seen anything from Sideshow and Hot Toys you should know one thing, these figures are simply amazing. The level of detail that you see is almost on an unparalleled level. Such a huge difference from when I was a kid and all we had were those tiny GI Joes with the kung fu grip and a couple plastic weapons that you always managed to lose.

Let’s get some stats out of the way. Here’s all the info you need direct from the website.

The Captain America Sixth Scale Figure features: Authentic and detailed likeness of Chris Evans as Captain America in the Captain America: The First Avenger movie

Stands approximately 30 cm tall (or about 12” for us non-metric using people)

              Helmeted head

Muscular body with over 30 points of articulations

Hand-painted, movie-accurate facial expression with detailed wrinkles and skin texture

Nine (9) pieces of interchangeable gloved palms including:

One (1) pair of palms for holding shield

One (1) pair of palms for wielding shield

One (1) right palm for holding gun

One (1) pair of relaxed palms

              One (1) pair of fists

One (1) blue and off-white jacket with embossed pattern as well as stars in chest and arms

One (1) pair of grey and red suspenders

One (1) pair of blue pants

One (1) brown faux-leather belt with pouches and pistol sheath

One (1) pair of brown boots

              One (1) metallic electroplated shield

              One (1) machine gun

              One (1) pistol

Figure stand with Captain America nameplate and movie logo

Is that enough for you? All that comes in a huge box with the Captain America shield logo printed on it and little compartments that hold the accessories. Now I’ll admit I kinda wish that Cap came with a few more weapons, but all we really need is the shield right? And about the shield for a moment.

It’s made of plastic and given a really shiny coat of paint. Which is fine, I suppose, but you put this much detail into everything else would it have killed you to make a shield out of metal? Oh well, you can’t have everything you want right? That’s my only real gripe about this figure. Everything else is perfectly fine in my book.

The articulation, the different sets of palms that allow you to place the shield in different positions, and the other various accessories make this figure just a ton of fun to set up on your shelf or display case.

Now, Cap here is priced at $169.99 but it doesn’t really matter because he’s all sold out.  But don’t fret. There’s still a way you can get one. How you may ask? Well, we have one that was given to us and we’re gonna give it to one of you. Here’s how to enter.  is an unofficial fan site devoted to Avengers Items and Collectibles.
